The type of legume cover crops consist mainly of peas, beans, alfalfa and clover. Non-leguminous green manure type consist of winter rye, grown in most cases, followed by oats and various types of grain. These do not add nitrogen to the soil, even if they contribute to maintain the level and grow quickly to do in the fall for the benefit of weeds. Some green manure plants produce roots that make their way down and through the soil and held together in the Web root as they grow. An asterisk (*) is a typographical symbol or glyph. It is so called because it resembles a conventional image of a star.
